Get Involved!
If you want to get involved, the first thing to do is join the IMC-Maritimes discussion list, and
introduce yourself. Here's a list to give you a sense of what IMC-Maritimes needs done. We are 100% volunteer-run, so what IMC-Maritimes is, is up to us.
Organization
organize a local meeting of people interested in indymedia on a
monthly basis or more frequently, depending on how much there is to
discuss. This provides a way for people to touch base locally to discuss
ideas, talk about projects and things to report, and to generally get
enthused about indymedia.
tell as many people about the site as possible.
Reporting
interview a local person who has interesting things to say,
transcribe it, and post it.
take pictures of an event, post them to the newswire.
write up an account (doesn't have to be long) of an event or a basic
description of an organization.
do some media criticism - take an article from the mainstream press
and show, line by line, how it leaves out critical information (if in
fact it does). Jessica Squires and Mylene DiPenta set a great example.
Site Content
look at our linkspage , and suggest links
to valuable, locally oriented independent media.
write a short summary of an issue or event, and compile a list of the
best links on that subject (from indymedia sites and otherwise). Send
this to the list, and it'll get posted to the features section (left
column on the main page).
Tech
volunteers are needed to monitor the newswire, correct obvious
spelling errors and formatting problems, and help people who want to
update their articles. If you want to help with this, it requires basic
html knowledge and is pretty straightforward, so email me.
design ideas and suggestions are as valid a contribution as any, so
speak up!
if you have any equipment that you're willing to let other people
use, say so on the list.
